Taking Care Of Grass.South Miami Dade County Florida Area Watering your Lawn In the summer for a healthy lawn I would make sure the lawn is getting about 3 inches of water a week. In the winter for a healthy lawn I would make sure the lawn is getting about 2 inches of water a week. This can be kind of confusing because we in Miami get less rain in the winter. So even though a healthy lawn needs less water in the winter. You might have to water it more in the winter. A good time to water is early in the mourning. Try to let the water go deep into the soil so the deep roots of the grass can get the water. Let the water go about 5 to 6 inches down into the soil. Light watering could be harmful.Fertilizer Too much fertilizer can be harmful. I have also read that you can get your grass to green and the roots can spread out on the surface making the grass not as healthy. Be careful not apply to much fertilizer. Spring and summer are the best time to fertilize. For Wed and Feed Fertilizer you also need to read the instructions about Apply your fertilizer. Figure out the size of your lawn. Figure out how much water it will be getting. Read the instructions for the fertilizer and apply the fertilizer according the instruction for the fertilizer you will be using!Grass Clipping Research has been made saying that grass clipping will began to decompose almost right after being cut which is a good source of nitrogen. These decomposed grass clippings can supply up to 50% of nitrogen requirements. Research has also shown that grass clippings help to suppress the growth of weeds. If you have not cut your lawn in a long time you'll probably have to much grass clipping so you might have to rake up the clipping if they are to thick. It's only good to leave the grass clipping if your grass is cut regular. The lawn also needs to be cut at the proper height. It's not healthy for your lawn to grow to tall and then to cut it. But it needs to be cut some how and sometime if you have neglected it. If your grass was to tall when you cut your grass it's going to take some time with proper maintenance to get your lawn back into a healthy one.Lawn Mowing Keep your lawn cut regular is good for your lawn, you should keep it cut regular In the summer it is good to water your lawn the day before you cut the grass. Letting the grass grow a little higher in the summer is good. When cutting your lawn, cut off 1\3 of the height of the grass leaf. I have read that it is not good to cut it any shorter than 2 inches. For grass that is cut once every two weeks, it is best to cut at a height of 3-4 inches this will help the grass stay healthy. It is also good for the roots. Keep in mind that whatever height you cut your lawn you should only cut off 1/3 of the length of the grass leaf. This gives it a chance to have good metabolism. You should keep your lawn properly mowed for a healthy lawn.Copyright © 2006 Madecool.com! All rights reserved. |
